Polycarbonate clear-panel cover
A polycarbonate clear-panel cover uses multi-wall polycarbonate roofing instead of an insulated aluminum pan.
How polycarbonate clear-panel cover actually works.
A polycarbonate clear-panel cover uses multi-wall polycarbonate roofing instead of an insulated aluminum pan. The result is a brighter, lighter-feeling room that reads as a true sunroom — dappled light comes through, but UV is filtered (premium UV-stabilized polycarbonate filters >99% UV). Best for shaded yards where a darker aluminum-pan roof would feel closed-in; less ideal for direct-south sun where heat gain becomes uncomfortable.
Polycarbonate lifespan in NE FL UV exposure depends on grade — entry-level material yellows in 8–10 years; premium UV-stabilized material lasts the warranty period. Install otherwise mirrors a standard Renaissance screen-room build.
The execution details that decide outcome.
Tree canopy match. Polycarbonate reads brighter under shade; aluminum-pan reads cooler in direct sun.
Premium polycarbonate grade. The yellow-in-8-years grade is cheaper now and expensive later.
Drainage tied to existing yard grading. New cover dumping water on existing landscape kills it.
