Patios outcome

Hurricane-rated to 175 mph

Renaissance Patio's structural ratings reach 175 mph wind speed on properly engineered installs — meeting and exceeding the most stringent NE Florida coastal wind-load requirements (140 mph FBC design wind zone is the highest coastal classification).

What this project is

How hurricane-rated to 175 mph actually works.

Renaissance Patio's structural ratings reach 175 mph wind speed on properly engineered installs — meeting and exceeding the most stringent NE Florida coastal wind-load requirements (140 mph FBC design wind zone is the highest coastal classification). The rating comes from the combination of marine-grade aluminum framing, hurricane-rated screen mesh and cable systems, and properly poured footings with hurricane straps to the existing structure.

The rating doesn't mean the cover survives all storms unscathed (screens may need replacement after a Category 4) but the structural framing remains intact and the home's connected envelope isn't compromised. For coastal Ponte Vedra and Atlantic Beach installs, this rating is essentially required; for inland Clay County and Mandarin (130 mph zone), it provides headroom.

What Mark watches for

The execution details that decide outcome.

  • Footing pour depth and rebar specification. The rating depends on the footings as much as the frame.

  • Hurricane strap connection to existing structure. Where the cover attaches to the house must transfer load correctly.

  • Screen replacement budget after major storms. Frame survives; screens may not.
