Travertine paver patio
Travertine paver patios use natural travertine stone (typically 1–2" thick pavers in 12×24", 16×24", or French-pattern combinations) over a compacted base.
How travertine paver patio actually works.
Travertine paver patios use natural travertine stone (typically 1–2" thick pavers in 12×24", 16×24", or French-pattern combinations) over a compacted base. The natural stone reads as significantly higher-end than concrete pavers, stays cooler than dark concrete in direct sun, and develops a patina over time that improves the look. The trade-off is cost (roughly 2x concrete pavers) and the need for sealing every 2–3 years to maintain stain resistance.
For pool decks, travertine's heat reflection (lighter colors) and slip resistance (textured finishes) make it a common premium choice. Cold-rated travertine handles NE Florida winters without spalling.
The execution details that decide outcome.
Sub-base preparation. Travertine performance depends on the base under it; cut corners here, the pavers shift.
Sealing schedule. Every 2–3 years for stain resistance; document the seal product used.
Cold-rated stone for NE FL. Lower-grade travertine spalls in occasional NE FL freezes.
