Update electrical to current code
A whole-house electrical update brings the panel, branch wiring, outlet count, GFCI/AFCI coverage, and grounding up to current NEC and Florida Building Code standards.
How update electrical to current code actually works.
A whole-house electrical update brings the panel, branch wiring, outlet count, GFCI/AFCI coverage, and grounding up to current NEC and Florida Building Code standards. Most commonly done during a major remodel — the walls are open anyway, the disruption is already happening, and the permit pulls together with the building permit cleanly.
In Northeast Florida's older housing stock, the most common issues are aluminum branch wiring (1965–1975 builds), undersized panels (100A or 150A on a 2,500+ sq ft home), insufficient outlet count in kitchens and baths, and missing GFCI on circuits that have been added since the original build. Each gets addressed independently or together depending on scope.
The execution details that decide outcome.
Aluminum branch wiring connections. Code requires AlumiConn or equivalent at every junction; budget the allowance up front.
Panel sizing for future load. 200A or 400A is the right call for a modern induction range, on-demand water heater, EV charger, and smart-home loads.
GFCI/AFCI coverage. NEC 2023 expanded coverage significantly; older homes typically need new breakers across multiple circuits.
