Bathroom Remodeling outcome

Freestanding soaking tub

A freestanding tub is the visual centerpiece of a primary bath remodel.

What this project is

How freestanding soaking tub actually works.

A freestanding tub is the visual centerpiece of a primary bath remodel. The install requires accurate drain location (typically planned at framing), a floor strong enough to carry the loaded tub weight (often 600–1,200 lbs filled), and a faucet either floor-mounted or wall-mounted with appropriate rough-in. The decision between a slipper, double-ended, or oval shape affects what fits the room — measure twice before ordering.

Most freestanding tubs in NE Florida primary baths are 60–72" long; smaller rooms favor 60" oval or slipper shapes that read longer than they are. The space around the tub (12" minimum clearance for cleaning) matters more in daily use than the size of the tub itself.

What Mark watches for

The execution details that decide outcome.

  • Floor structure capacity. Loaded tub weight requires verification; older joist systems may need reinforcement.

  • Drain rough-in to the specific tub model. Generic rough-in often doesn't align; order the tub first.

  • Faucet selection at the same time as the tub. Floor-mount vs. wall-mount changes plumbing rough-in entirely.
