Submittal
Documentation (shop drawings, product data, samples) submitted by the contractor to the owner or designer for approval before installation.
What submittal actually means.
Submittals are the formal exchange of product information between contractor and owner/designer during construction. Shop drawings (cabinet elevations, custom millwork details), product data (manufacturer specifications, warranties), and physical samples (tile, stone, paint) all flow through submittals so the owner can approve before fabrication or installation. Submittal discipline is what makes commercial projects predictable; the same practices applied to residential construction reduce surprises.
