Egress Requirements (FBC R310)
Florida Building Code Residential requirements for emergency escape and rescue openings in sleeping rooms.
Definition
What egress requirements (fbc r310) actually means.
FBC R310 requires every residential sleeping room to have at least one operable emergency escape and rescue opening (typically a window) with specific minimum dimensions: 5.7 sq ft clear opening, 24-inch minimum height, 20-inch minimum width, sill height no more than 44 inches above the finished floor. Garage conversions and additions that create sleeping rooms must meet R310 — small or sealed windows aren't sufficient.
